Will the media fail us again?

When the U.S. government's long-awaited reports on the war in Iraq are issued this month, what will newspapers and other media have to say about the matter

Recent history doesn't give us much cause to expect that they'll be forthright.

Will the media really analyze this report and talk about violence throughout Iraq and not just where the "surge" took place? Even if the surge does lower the death toll in some areas, what does it mean for U.S. troops leaving Iraq and the stability of the Iraqi government? These are the questions the media must examine. As you and others have been saying the past several weeks, the key is getting a political solution. The military can have its "success", but unless a stable government is formed and basic resources are reestablished, it's all meaningless and the death toll will continue to rise.

It'll be interesting to see how this Petraeus/Crocker/Bush stuff plays out next week and how the media and the pols react to it all.

So the problem is that there is more violence when the U.S. fights harder?

That's a feature not a bug.
