Another GOP rightist busted

Another "family values" Republican has been arrested on a morals charge.

This time it's U.S. Sen. Larry Craig of Idaho. He pleaded guilty to making lewd advances to an undercover cop in an airport bathroom in Minneapolis.

Here are the details.

UPDATE: Twenty-five years ago, Craig denied having anything to do with a sex scandal involving young House pages. He's shown in this video of an ABC News report from back then:

UPDATE II: Daily Kos has lots more about Craig and about a story on his private life that apparently was spiked by a paper in Boise.

Wow, he's guilty of legislating while gay. Of course he should be ostracized and his life ruined. I'm so glad that the Rascal is on top of the situation and is able to let us know what a terrible crime he's committed.

Glad to be of help. Glad, too, to highlight the hypocrisy of "family values" champions like Larry Craig.

Hypocracy or moral weakness?

The Rascal said...

Hypocrisy IS moral weakness.

Anonymous doesn't get this at all Rascal. Even the Republican leadership is calling for Craig's resignation. I can't believe Craig is fighting this, but the Democrats have to be loving it.

I would feel sorry for Craig (he's obviously a deeply troubled man who's terribly confused about his sexuality) were it not for his political stance of moral busybodyism in general and his intolerance toward gays in particular. Isn't it strange that GOP leaders want Craig out while they give a pass to the whoremonger Vitter?

Yes, but not all moral weakness is hypocrisy.

"Even the Republican leadership is calling for Craig's resignation. "

So that makes it right? I can't believe your appealing to the authority of the Republican leadership. I guess as long as they agree with you they must be right.

Look, isn't it only logical that I'm going to consider anybody who agrees with me to be right at least on that point? I mean, if I thought they weren't right, then they wouldn't be in agreement with me. But actually, I'm not in agreement with some right-wingers on the Larry Craig matter. For example, I don't agree with this statement from the Idaho Family Values Association: "Even setting Senator Craig's situation aside, the Party should regard participation in the self-destructive homosexual lifestyle as incompatible with public service on behalf of the GOP."
