I just got my August issue of Vanity Fair, which features the last piece written by David Halberstam, one of the best journalists of his time, before his death in a car accident in April.It's about efforts by George W. Bush and his toadies to cast his presidency in a favorable historical light. Read it here.

One of the best political pieces I've ever read. I was sorry to hear when Halberstam died, but his career as a journalist definitely ended in peak condition.
Rascal, I haven't read the Vanity Fair article yet, but we have lost one of the great journalists of our time. His book, "The Best and The Brightest", is the definitive work on how and whe we got entangled in Vietnam. His book, "The Children", is one of the best pieces written on the civil rights movement of the 50's and 60's. In addition, the guy was an outstanding writer about sports. His book, "The Breaks of the Game", is one of the two or three best sports books I've ever read. Someone should do a documentary on the man so more people know about his contributions to society.
