Uh-oh! Newtie's making sense again

As I've noted here on several occasions recently, Newt Gingrich has been speaking some truths of late.

Today, for example, Gingrich told a group of reporters that the Republican presidential nominee next year will be toast if he doesn't represent a "clean break" from the policies of George W. Bush.

I, for one, hope that Newtie takes the presidential plunge himself. I won't vote for him, but I'm sure he'll make the process much more interesting.

Petraeus for president?

The general reportedly has big political ambitions.

UPDATE: Newtie's got the itch, too.

UPDATE II: Petraeus won't likely get a vote from Admiral William Fallon, who considers him an "ass-kissing little chicken-shit."

Damn! Newtie's right again!

It pains me to say this, because there's so much about the guy that I don't like, but Newt Gingrich is getting in the habit these days of making sense. This stuff he said at the National Press Club the other day is a good example.

I had cause last week, as well, to give Gingrich a qualified nod of approval.

Stop it, Newt! Stop it right now!

Newtie indulges in still more apostasy

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is becoming more and more the Republican maverick these days, dissing his own party and its president at almost every turn.

In his latest salvo, Gingrich told a gathering of college conservatives that President Bush is losing his "phony" war on terror and that the nation needs "leaders who are prepared to tell the truth...about the failures of the performance of Republicans...failed bureaucracies...about how dangerous the world is."

Last week, Gingrich said in a nationally televised interview that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is "a liability for the United States of America" and should resign.

As for whether he'll run for the Republican presidential nomination, Gingrich remains coy, not exactly ruling it out but acting as if it's unlikely.

Newt blasts away -- and I agree with him

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich used a breakfast speech this morning to belittle all kinds of people, and I can find nothing he said (at least as reported by Bill Sammon of the Washington Examiner) with which I disagree.

I even agree with his unwitting observation that a Gingrich presidency would be "the country's problem." But, of course, it'll never come to that.
