Why all the filibusters?


Senate Republicans have become filibuster-crazy, and it's not too hard to figure out why.

A majority of senators -- and a majority of the American people -- want certain things enacted that the Republicans oppose. So, the GOPers stage filibusters to block up-and-down votes on those matters.

The War Prayer

Mark Twain's "The War Prayer," written in 1904, has been made into a video by Washington Monthly publisher Markos Kounalakis, with illustrations by Akis Dimitrakopoulos and narration by Peter Coyote, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and Erik Bauersfeld.

It runs about 15 minutes and is well worth the time.
