Don't forget what our kids in Iraq are dying for

The next time somebody from the Rock River Valley comes home from Iraq in a flag-draped box or with a limb or two missing, remember that falsehoods like these were used by the Bush administration to convince the gullible among us that Saddam Hussein had ties to al-Qaida and thus was involved in the attacks of 9/11.

Remember, too, that many of the Republicans who impeached Bill Clinton for lying about having consensual sex in the Oval Office with somebody other than his wife can't seem to get upset about the lies of their buddies in the White House that have led to the deaths of thousands of young Americans.

Where is their patriotism? How do they face themselves in the mirror? Have they no shame?

Goat: "A proactive defense"? A need "to make an object lesson out of a hostile regime"? I "can't handle the truth"?

The only object lesson of the war in Iraq (which had not taken any hostile action against the United States, by the way)is that the people who warned against it (including more than a few generals) are right and the neocons who justified it with a pack of lies were wrong.

Read Bob Woodward's book, Goat. It's an amazing and well-documented story of incompetence, deceit and (in the words of Republican Sen. Smith) perhaps criminality.

As for "a proactive defense," is that what you call diverting our attention from the hunt for Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida to pursue a crazy scheme dreamed up by Bush's gang of neocons?

As for the "truth," to use that word in connection with the architects of this misadventure is downright laughable.
